ACER PALMATUM 'KATSURA' DEVELOPMENT
1980 TO PRESENT
This is one of a few trees that have survived from my first year
in
bonsai. I bought it in 1980 as a five or six year old cutting.
When I was a decade or so younger than I am now, I thought bigger
is
better. In 1992, therefore, when the width of the tree was not in
proportion to its height, instead of reducing its width, I decided
to
increase its height. Little did I know then that it would be a ten-year
process to make the taller tree gel.
The pictures below chronicle the tree's progress since 1982.
